Migration studies and spatial mobility

Reference person: Corrado Bonifazi

The principle objectives of this section are the analysis of internal and international migration in all their diverse aspects and the study of the relationship between population and mobility. The purpose is to provide analysis, explanations and tools for public institutions and private agencies involved in these dynamics at different levels. From a scientific point of view, we try to have a comprehensive approach to mobility phenomenon in order to point out and valorise their interrelations, similarities and dissimilarities This approach is in substantial agreement with one of the most promising research trends in the realm of migration studies. From an operational point of view, the objective is to promote the skills acquired in a field in which the institute has a consolidated tradition. These tools may also be utilised by subjects who consider migration issues from a political or social point of view.

We can individuate the following lines of research on which the section is articulating its activities: International migration, Italian Migration, Foreign migration into Italy, Attitudes and opinions of Italians towards migration, Gender and migration, High skilled migration, Internal migration and dynamics of urbanisation.
