THINGS is a interdisciplinary research group which studies the determinants and social dynamics of the knowledge society. The research conducted by the group can be traced back to four fundamental principles for development, equitable generation, distribution and access to knowledge identified by UNESCO: cultural diversity, access to education, access to information and freedom of expression. The members of the group collect multiple disciplinary skills: social research and sociology of organizations, statistics and qualitative methods, gender studies, political science and the study of risk creation.
Much of the research work falls back on in the area of science policyaddressing in particular the issues of human resources, gender equity in scientific research, tertiary education and international mobility. Studies include different thematic focuses including Open Science and Open Access, the measurement and evaluation of research through non-traditional tools such as relational / self-evaluation and altmetrics, risk creation and management. The group manages several Projects funded, in particular of the Framework Programs of the European Commission. The group is contact person for the CNR for gender policies through coordination
of the GdL on Budget and Gender Plan.
