Marseille 25-26 June 2018 – Institut Méditerranéen de Recherches Avancées (IMéRA)
Organized within the research program Settling in Motion (Fondation Universitaire A*Midex) and the Italian-French Associated Laboratory MediterraPolis, this conference focuses on intra-urban mobility, from the start of the modern era to the present.
The aim of the conference is to explore mobility in the city in relation to social dynamics, as a “detective” element of the functioning of urban societies. To do this, it will put in place a centred approach to individuals and their mobility practices on the one hand (life cycle and biography), and the spatial and historical context on the other, considering, for example, the impact of conjunctural shocks such as those caused by an economic crisis and by other unexpected events of an environmental or a socio-political nature. The dialogue between different disciplines will allow to detect continuities and breaks beyond the classic pre- and post-Industrial Revolution periodization.
