This is the title of the article published in the prestigious journal Journal of Immigrant & Refugee Studies published by Taylor & Francis online by Adriana Valente, Valentina Tudisca, Andrea Pelliccia, Loredana Cerbara and Maria Girolama Caruso
“The article reflects on patterns of representation of migrants used by the media according to political orientation, analyzing the coverage of key events by progressive and conservative online newspapers in France, Greece, Italy, and the United Kingdom. From the textual and visual analysis presented, it is possible to recognize slight specificities between progressives and conservatives, but not indicative of a profound change in narrative. In both, a prevalence of the ‘acceptance frame’ was recorded, an infrequent use of negative tones in texts and of the topic of aesthetics in images, among Boltanski’s ‘topics of suffering.’ A tendency toward domesticity is also highlighted, which limits the emergence of new narratives of Europe and the rest of the world.”
