The scientific context
International and internal migration have become a key element in the evolution of Western societies. This happens at different geographical levels. In fact, such processes affect to the same extent supranational (e.g. European Union), national, regional and local areas. This is largely proved by the intensity and extent of the debate, not only scientific but also political and cultural, on these issues in Italy and other Western countries. One of the most promising paths of research within this field is that which aims at putting together the different facets of mobility, to try and build a unified and comprehensive framework for interpretation. It is on this line of thought, also reliable due to the diverse scientific expertise available, that we try to arrange the various research activities of the project, in order to emphasize and highlight the common elements and specificity of the analyzed phenomena.
The lines of work will address different issues related to the phenomena of mobility and demographic dynamics at a regional level. In particular, the following themes are generally addressed: the dynamics of international migration, migration policies, the various aspects of foreign immigration in Italy, Italian emigration, internal mobility and demographic trends at a regional level.
The skills at our disposal are demographic, geographic, computer, sociological and statistical.
The research techniques used are quantitative, especially statistical and demographic in analysis, and of a qualitative type typical to the sociological analysis.
Improvement of knowledge of studied social dynamics and the possible use of research results in the provision of intervention policy at different levels and by different subjects interested in the analyzed phenomena.
The objectives of the module are the analysis of the various aspects of internal and international migration trends and the study of the relationship between population and territory, in order to provide tools for understanding, interpretation and response to those subjects (domestic, international, public and private) that, at different levels, are involved in the phenomena.
