Ethics and Polemics
The Perception and awareness of science (PAS) project is conducted by CNR in collaboration with the British Council as part of the cycle of Ethics and Polemics initiatives to promote a public debate between students of both schools and universities and experts on scientific issues of general interest and to reduce the gap between youth and science. In the PAS project, it seeks to test a path that can bring wealth and the articulation of scientific debate, and the themes and issues raised by this, in the public communication of science.
The two main phases provided by each of the initiatives of the project are: to organize a public debate within and between students and a survey on the perception of science and its values.
In the “Perception and Awareness of Science” project have been carried out a series of initiatives, all on issues of science in action the first, on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), held in Bologna in 2002-2003, the second on electromagnetic pollution in Rome in 2003-2004 and the third on space exploration, in Naples and Rome in 2004-2005, the fourth initiative “Climate Change and the city” in Rome and Milan in 2006-2007. The follow up of this last event included a panel discussion among a small group of students, scientists and public administrators, where it has sought to highlight the proactive/ deliberative component. The topic of discussion for the fifth initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, was the “water crisis” and was held in Rome and Milan on December 10th 2007 (see also this documentation)
