The research project deals with the topic of integration among the young generations and its relationship with sports activities. It is part of the recent debate on the role of sport as a means of integration and to fight against social exclusion at European and national level, and on the need to set up projects in Italy to favour the co-existence of young Italian and foreign citizens. The study uses a survey conducted on students and teachers and deals with the topics of young people’s participation in sport and students’ sharing of sport’s underlying values, as well as other aspects relating to relationships between peers in and out of school. During the 2016-2017 school year, the survey was carried out on a sample of middle schools (ages 11-14), while in the 2017-2018 school year it will involve a sample of secondary schools (ages 15-19).
The project is part of programme agreed between the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies and the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) for the promotion of integration policies through sport.
The sport and integration project was performed over two school years but forms a single project.
