Preliminary results of the VIVA project presented at the Observatory on violence against women
The second national survey on the Centers for Male Perpetrators of Violence (CUAV) has been concluded, which has made it possible to photograph – 5 years after the first survey – the evolution of the presence of these centers on the national territory. The preliminary results confirm the great dynamism of these specialized services, whose presence in the area over the last 5 years has more than doubled, considering the total number of access points (main and secondary offices) which increased from 69 to 148.
The survey was undertaken by IRPPS researchers as part of the VIVA project (Evaluation and Analysis of interventions to prevent and combat violence against women) and the preliminary results were presented today, July 18 during the Assembly of the Observatory on the phenomenon of violence against women and domestic violence convened by the Minister for family, birth rate and equal opportunities, Hon. Eugenia Maria Roccella.
Pietro Demurtas, coordinator of the VIVA project, expressed great satisfaction with the excellent outcome of the survey, to which 98 of the 100 mapped and invited programs responded. Among the results presented today, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lombardy are the 3 regions where CUAVs are most widespread. Among the four regions that in 2017 did not even have a CUAV on their territory, only Calabria has seen the birth of a Centre, while Basilicata, Molise and Valle d'Aosta continue to be missing.
In the coming months, the analysis of the data obtained will make it possible to reflect on the structural characteristics, the approaches adopted, the methods of taking charge of the perpetrators of violence, as well as those activated for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment. Furthermore, it will be possible to shed light on the adherence of the CUAVs to the standards defined at national level and on the changes that have occurred following the entry into force of law 69/2019 (so-called Red Code).
The VIVA project is the result of the collaboration agreement signed between the CNR-IRPPS and the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (DPO). As part of the project, the CNR is also conducting evaluation activities of the actions implemented within the National Strategic Plan against violence against women.
