The evolution of information and communication technologies (ICT) and the pervasive use of new devices and online services, allows a growing number of people to access data and information and services. In this scenario, the development of emerging technologies must take into account that they are used by very different people and organizations in terms of objectives, social, cultural characteristics and technological skills in heterogeneous contexts. The activity of the Social Informatics and Technology Assessment unit (Social Informatics and Technology Assessment-SITA) involves interdisciplinary skills by activating a process of cultural contamination among communication scientists, computer scientists, engineers, economists and sociologists. This research activity has been carried out for years with numerous national and international collaborations, participation and coordination of European projects and participation in training programs in collaboration with numerous universities and high schools. Moreover, the Unit periodically promotes scientific initiatives (conferences, international workshops, Special Issues in international journals). The researches mainly concern the study and development of methods, models and new technologies, the study of the dynamics and influences of the evolution of ICT and changes in society. These researches aim to: - analyze the impact of ICT on the population and the expectations induced in terms of evolution and prospects of technologies; -produce theoretical and technological innovations to reduce the digital divide in the population, increasing the availability and accessibility of services, information, data and knowledge through ICT, as well as the engagement of the population at an individual and collective level with respect to the different instances of society; -study and proposal of technology assessment models in different sectors of society.
