The evolution of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and the pervasive use of new online devices and services allow an increasing number of people to access data, information, and services. In this scenario, the development of emerging technologies must take into account that they are used by people and organizations with diverse goals, social and cultural characteristics, and technological skills in heterogeneous contexts. The activities of the Social Informatics and Technology Assessment (SITA) unit involve interdisciplinary expertise, fostering a process of cross-disciplinary exchange among communication scientists, computer scientists, engineers, economists, and sociologists. This research activity has been conducted for years, boasting numerous national and international collaborations, participation in and coordination of European projects, and involvement in training programs in partnership with various universities and secondary schools. Furthermore, the Unit periodically promotes scientific initiatives (conferences, international workshops, special issues in international journals). Research primarily focuses on the study and development of methods, models, and new technologies, as well as the dynamics and influences of ICT evolution and societal changes. This research aims to: -analyze the impact of ICT on the population and the expectations regarding technological evolution and prospects; -produce theoretical and technological innovations to reduce the digital divide, increasing the availability and accessibility of services, information, data, and knowledge through ICT, as well as individual and collective public engagement regarding various societal issues; -study and propose technology assessment models in various sectors of society. <\/span><\/p>\n <\/div>\r\n\r\n
