Salvatore Strozza<\/i>, born in Formia (LT) on August 22, 1963, has been a full professor of Demography at the University of Naples Federico II since 2005. In the period 2015-2021 he was coordinator of the degree course in Political Science (class L-36) and of the master’s degree courses in International Relations and Scenario Analysis (LM-52),\nInternational Relations (LM-52, taught in English) and European Political Science and Development Strategies (LM-90). He coordinated the first-level Master’s program in “Immigration and Public Policies for Reception and Integration” and then the second-level Master’s program in “Management of Migration and Reception and Inclusion Processes” (GeMPrAI), which he promoted. He is an associate editor of the journal GENUS, a member of the Scientific Committee of the journal STUDI EMIGRAZIONE\/Migration Studies, and a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the ISMU Series “Initiatives and Studies on Multiethnicity” published by FrancoAngeli. Since 2003, he has been a research associate at the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies (IRPPS) of the CNR. He is a member of the IMISCOE (International Migration, Integration and Social Cohesion) network of excellence and the Neodemos expert group. He was first Vice President and then President of the Italian Association for Population Studies (AISP), a section of the Italian Statistical Society (SIS). From 2020 until 2026, he has been President of the Italian Society of Economics, Demography and Statistics (SIEDS). <\/p>

His main research field concerns international migration and foreign immigration in Italy. In this context, he has addressed the following topics: measurement and estimation of the foreign presence; conducting sample surveys on immigrants; determinants of migration intentions; evolution of international migration affecting European countries; territorial distribution of foreign immigrants and settlement patterns in cities; demographic behavior of migrants and the effects of migration; immigration and labor markets in host countries; the integration process of immigrants: from measurements to determinants; and the educational and labor inclusion of second generations. <\/span><\/p>

In this field, he has provided numerous contributions and developed various collaborations following participation in several national and international research groups. He has taken part in various conferences and scientific meetings and was a keynote speaker<\/i> at the following events:<\/p>

  • 48th SIS Scientific Meeting, held at the University of Salerno, 8-10 June 2016; <\/span><\/li>
  • Third Conference of the Italian Society of Economic Sociology (SISEC) on “Development and Inequalities. South of the North and North of the South,” held at the University\nof Naples Federico II from 31 January to 2 February 2019; of Naples Federico II from 31 January to 2 February 2019;<\/span><\/li>

    • \u201cGli immigrati stranieri in Italia. Quanti sono, chi sono, come vivono?\u201d (Foreign immigrants in Italy. How many are they, who are they, how do they live?) (507 pages), written with Marcello Natale and published by Cacucci Editore, Bari, in 1997;<\/span><\/li>
    • \u201cLa rilevazione delle migrazioni internazionali e la predisposizione di un sistema informativo sugli stranieri\u201d (The detection of international migration and the preparation of an information system on foreigners) (234 pages), a research report for the Commission for the Guarantee of Statistical Information (CoGIS), prepared in collaboration with Marcello Natale, Enrico Todisco, and Francesca Ballacci, and released in October 2002;<\/span><\/li>
    • \u201cNuovi italiani. I giovani immigrati cambieranno il nostro paese?\u201d (New Italians. Will young immigrants change our country?) (170 pagine), co-authored with Gianpiero Dalla Zuanna and Patrizia Farina, published by Il Mulino di Bologna in 2009;<\/span><\/li>
    • \u201cNuovi cittadini. Diventare italiani nell\u2019era della globalizzazione\u201d (New Citizens. Becoming Italian in the Age of Globalization) (192 pagine), co-authored with Cinzia Conti and Enrico Tucci, published by Il Mulino di Bologna in 2020.<\/span><\/li>
    • He has edited, along with other colleagues, three monographic issues of the international journal STUDI EMIGRAZIONE: no. 152, on \u201cIntegration of immigrants in Europe: data sources and measurement in old and new receiving countries\u201d (2003); no. 171 on \u201cImmigrants and foreigners in the 2001 census\u201d (2008); no. 202 on \u201cMigration from Central-Eastern Europe to Southern Europe: trends and problems during the crisis years\u201d (2016). He is among the Guest Editors of the Thematic Issue on \u201cThe legacy of Corrado Gini in population studies\u201d of the international journal GENUS (vol. LXXI, No. 2-3, 2015).<\/li>
    • He has co-edited 14 volumes published by various publishing houses. In particular, he co-edited two editions of the Population Report, published in early 2015 (with A. De Rose) and 2017 (with G. De Santis) by Il Mulino, Bologna.
