From 2001 to 2022, Frank Heins was a Senior Researcher and Research Director at the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies of the National Research Council. He is a geographer and demographer. His research focuses on the territorial aspects of the structures and dynamics of demographic and socio-economic processes, particularly migration, both internal and international. His current projects involve the study of different family types and their dynamics, the analysis of various aspects of internal migration in Italy, and the observation of residential segregation.
His main areas of interest are:

  • territorial aspects of demographic and socio-economic structures and dynamics
    territorial differences in demographic behavior
  • internal migration – a comparison between Italy and other industrialized countries
    local demography and residential segregation processes
  • Italian-German migration since the 1950s
  • Italian emigration today
