Gennaro Clemente, graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the “La Sapienza” University of Rome and specialized in Liver and Metabolic Diseases at the same university, has been a CNR researcher within the Human Nutrition and Metabolism Section at the ISA in Avellino since 1992 until 2011, and subsequently at the IRPPS branch unit in Fisciano (SA).
He was a member of the Study and Research Center of the Association of Medical Diabetologists (AMD) and National Councilor of the AMD Foundation.
Since 2012, he has been an Adjunct Professor of Nutritional Physiology in the Master’s Degree Course in Human Nutrition at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the “Federico II” University of Naples.
National Coordinator of the Diabetes and Oncology Group of the Association of Medical Diabetologists (AMD), member of the national AMD Annals group, and consultant for the AMD – AIOM intersociety group “Diabetes and Tumors”.
Project Manager for: “Effectiveness on main cardiovascular risk factors of an intensive educational intervention aimed at promoting the Mediterranean dietary model among employees of FCA Italia S.p.A”, in collaboration with the “Federico II” University of Naples.
He has worked on nutritional epidemiology with particular reference to the relationship between nutrition and cardiovascular disease in women (FATA Project), as well as the evaluation of the mechanisms of action of water-soluble fibers on gastric emptying speed using ultrasound methodology and the influences that gastric emptying exerts on glucose-lipid metabolism in healthy subjects and those affected by Type 1 and 2 Diabetes Mellitus. He attended courses in Epidemiology and Statistics at Erasmus University Rotterdam.
He was a guest researcher at the Department of Chronic Diseases and Environmental Epidemiology of the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in Bilthoven (Netherlands), where he studied the relationship between saturated fatty acid consumption and the development of impaired glucose tolerance and/or diabetes, under the supervision of Dr. Edith Feskens.
