M. Carolina Brandi’s scientific activity primarily focuses on two research themes:
Human Geography and Science Policy
Her scientific activity is specifically dedicated to studies and research on highly qualified international migration, as well as the training, employment, and integration of highly qualified immigrants into Italian society. Furthermore, trends and policies regarding international mobility and the migration of Italian and foreign students, graduates, and PhD holders are analyzed.
The causes and socio-economic impact of the mobility and emigration of professionals and researchers at both national and international levels are studied.
The specific themes studied concerning the Italian case are:

– Analysis of trends and policies in highly qualified mobility: migration for study and university mobility
– The emigration of Italian graduates, researchers, university professors, and professionals

– Qualified immigration from Eastern European countries to Italy: brain gain and brain waste

– Recognition of academic qualifications and access to professions for foreign graduates:
overeducation

Numerous collaborations with national and international institutions have been established. She has been involved in various European projects since 2001:

– Brain Drain: Emigration Flows of Qualified Scientists, EU Network ENMOB (European Network on Mobility),

– MOMO (Human Resources in Research§Development: Monitoring System on Career Paths and Mobility Flows),

– RESCAR: (Collection and analysis of existing data on researchers careers and implementation of new data collection activities),

-MONITORING:(Monitoring progress towards the ERA), POHR (Policies for human resources in R§D),

– GENDER : (Gender equality in European Research Area).
