Emiliano Grimaldi is Associate Professor of Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes at the Department of Social Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II, where he teaches Sociology of Education and Sociology of Digital Education. His research activities, in Italy and abroad, focus on the transformations of educational systems, policies, and practices, understood as part of the broader change in Western welfare systems and their transition toward post-welfarist hybridizations. In recent years, his work has concentrated on: a) evaluation policies in the field of education in Italy, with particular reference to the analysis of the implementation of recent experiments in the evaluation of school principals, teachers, and educational institutions, and the growing role played in educational policy-making and evaluation by non-educational actors from the institutional fields of economics, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy; b) the transformations of school and university structures, and the curricular, pedagogical, and evaluative configurations arising from the policies and processes of digitalization of schools and universities, with particular reference to the theme of platform education.
