She is a social demographer, former Research Director at IRPPS and currently a CNR Associate. She has developed innovative research techniques in the socio-demographic and socio-political fields and has worked for more than 30 years on equal opportunities in science and society. She has many years of experience in the development and coordination of national and international research projects in the field of social policies, equity, and gender equality in scientific careers. She has gained extensive experience in the field of science communication, coordinating projects on the transfer of scientific results to the general public and the dismantling of stereotypes about science and scientists. During her career at the CNR, she was a member of the ETAN group; a member of the EC expert group on Gender and Scientific Excellence; EU Ambassador for equal opportunities in science; coordinator of numerous expert groups and committees; and responsible for science communication events of European interest.
She has written over 300 articles, books, and reports in the field of social relations in light of the policies and actions that can influence them. In the gender and science sector, she co-authored the ETAN Report Science policies in the European Union, ETAN Report European Community, European Commission- Research Directorate General, Luxembourg (2000); She Figures, EU, Luxembourg (2004); The Gender Challenge in Research funding, EU Commission, Luxembourg (2009). She is the author of Figlie di Minerva, Franco Angeli Milan (2000); Minerva’s Daughters – Filles de Minerve, EU, (2001); Women in science, Third European Report on Science & Technology, EU, Luxembourg, (2003), Sognando parità, Ponte alle grazie, Milan (2012). In the field of science communication, she is co-author of the volume Tintori A., Palomba R., (2017) A research-based guide to break down popular stereotypes on science and scientists, Ubiquitypress, London.
