WOMAN'S HURDLES
Gianluca Sotis – CNR Head
A EUROPEAN COLLABORATIVE PARTNERSHIP TO INCREASE WOMEN’S PARTICIPATION IN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PROGRAMS developed within the framework of the European Commission’s “Erasmus + Sport 2020” program.
Despite the well-known benefits of physical activity, it remains underutilized, particularly among women. However, community-based programs encouraging physical activity for women are quite numerous and attract a large female population, suggesting that the barriers to physical activity encountered by women can be overcome.
In reality, participation in physical activity programs varies by age. Women at the peak of their active lives are often preoccupied with other responsibilities, such as work, household chores, and family caregiving, making it very difficult to achieve and maintain high levels of female participation.
The project has 3 main objectives:
- to understand in detail the nature of barriers to physical activity among women aged 20 to 69, and subsequently devise possible solutions to change the approach to physical activity;
- to conduct online research on topics related to female physical activity;
- to organize training courses for professional trainers (doctors, physical trainers, and physical activity managers).
CNR-IRPPS has been called upon to collaborate in managing surveys and data analysis prior to project activities dedicated to concrete training and awareness-raising actions for women.
