Objectives
The educational program implemented at the Pratola Serra facility (Avellino, Italy) of FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) aimed to raise awareness among individuals to adopt behaviors inspired by the principles of the Mediterranean diet, physical activity, and the prevention of major cardiovascular risk factors.
Methods
The educational program was implemented in two different modalities in order to compare, according to an intervention-control scheme, the performance of the subgroups and the effect of the intervention types. Vital parameters were measured in both groups and compared using statistical probability tests.
Results
The educational intervention proved effective in:
promoting healthy food choices both at the workplace and at home (with a statistically significant reduction in caloric intake, animal proteins, saturated fatty acids, cholesterol, and glycemic load, and an increase in plant proteins),
significantly increasing physical activity and reducing body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and blood glucose in participants.
Conclusions
The educational campaign proved effective in enhancing the well-being of participants, confirming the effectiveness of a multifactorial intervention based on promoting a dietary pattern rather than individual foods.
