MINDtheGEPs – Modifying Institutions by Developing Gender Equality Plans

MINDtheGEPs is coordinated by the University of Turin (UniTo) and is funded under the Science with and for Society action of the European Union’s Horizon 2020.

The project’s objective is to promote gender equality in research organizations through the adoption of Gender Equality Plans (GEPs) in the participating research institutions and universities. The planned measures include training initiatives for research staff, mentoring and training actions for top management on gender biases and stereotypes and on strategies to promote diversity and inclusion in scientific work, and work-life balance actions in Research Areas.

Following the principle of “no data – no problem – no policy”, MINDtheGEPs will focus on mapping existing data related to personnel, careers, and scientific output, and on creating new empirical evidence on barriers to equality.
The data collection, both qualitative and quantitative, will enable the development and implementation of effective and context-appropriate Gender Equality Plans, which will be monitored and evaluated periodically. In particular, the aim is to:

– remove barriers in the recruitment and career progression of female research staff;
– counter gender inequality in governing bodies and evaluation committees;
– integrate the gender dimension into research content.

The IRPPS communications office supports the project’s communication and dissemination activities. The General Directorate, the Welfare and Training Office, the ICT Office, and the Single Guarantee Committee (CUG) of CNR contribute to the project with specific actions at the central level.
