WELFARE AND ERGONOMICS

The journal Welfare & Ergonomics was established within the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies of the National Research Council, is published by Franco Angeli editore, and is funded by the CNR Department of Social Sciences and Humanities, Cultural Heritage.

Since November 18, 2022, ANVUR has recognized it as a Class A scientific journal for Area 14 (Political and Social Sciences).

The journal, published in print and digital formats on a semi-annual basis, is monographic in nature and, since 2020, also includes an open section to provide space for innovative and interesting works related to the ongoing scientific debate or the current historical moment. Since its inception in 2015, Welfare & Ergonomia has adopted double-blind peer review. The IRPPS mission guides the choice of topics, which is shared with the journal’s governing bodies.

The journal was founded in 2015 by Antonella Ciocia, who served as its director until 2024. Starting in 2019, following the collaboration between the CNR and the University, the directorship has been shared with Mara Tognetti Bordogna (University of Milan). In 2024, for IRPPS, the directorship passed to Pietro Demurtas and Anna Milione.

Analysis of Social and Demographic Behaviors

The project addresses the study of relationships between recent demographic trends and social behaviors and aims to advance knowledge of their mutual connections, formulate interpretative hypotheses of current behaviors, and provide useful elements to guide policy interventions by decision-makers. The transformations that have occurred in the population structure, the need to support women’s participation in the labor market, the phenomenon of violence against women, the evolution of gender relations, immigration from non-EU countries, and the need to promote interest in scientific research among the population, especially young people, are all relevant aspects from a social, political, and economic perspective in relation to ongoing changes and the impact they will have on our society. It is therefore important to continue exploring these issues through specific studies and the development of new analytical methods and intervention tools.

INVFactor

INVFactor: You’re a Genius Too! is a CNR-IRPPS project dedicated to “young inventors” with the aim of channeling, stimulating, and enhancing the insights and creative energies acquired during school education by Italian boys and girls. The initiative was implemented in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2016, receiving widespread participation from Italian secondary schools and producing a strong media impact. The 2017 edition of INVFactor is funded by the European Commission.

To provide visibility and enhance inventions created in the school environment by young people; to raise awareness among young people to pursue scientific careers; to reduce the influence of social stereotypes on the scientific world and on scientists.

ViVa – Monitoring, Evaluation and Analysis of interventions for the prevention and combating of violence against women

ViVa – Evaluation and Analysis of interventions for the prevention and combating of violence against women

The project – resulting from the Collaboration Agreement signed between the Department for Equal Opportunities of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies of the National Research Council, concerning the Analysis and evaluation of interventions for the prevention and combating of violence against women – has an expected duration of 36 months starting from April 11, 2022.

It is structured into two main areas of intervention:

Area 1 - SUPPORT FOR POLICIES ON THE PREVENTION AND COMBATING OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

The purpose of the first area is to contribute, through action-research activities, to the planning and
implementation of measures for the prevention and combating of violence against women. In particular, the
various activities envisaged therein are aimed at promoting:

  • the operational articulation of the interventions of the National Strategic Plan on male violence against women 2021-2023;
  • the revision of the minimum requirements for access to funding for anti-violence centers and shelters and the definition of those relating to centers dedicated to male perpetrators of violence;
  • the creation of an updated mapping of centers dedicated to male perpetrators of violence, shedding light on their distribution and main characteristics;
  • the identification and analysis of the operating mechanisms of empowerment measures implemented at national and local level, aimed at women who undertake pathways to exit
    from violence.

This area consists of the following working packages (WP):

  • WP1 – Contribution to the implementation of the new National Plan on male violence against women 2021-2023.
  • WP2 – Contribution to the revision of the Agreement on the minimum requirements of anti-violence centers and shelters (provided for by Article 3, paragraph 4 of the D.P.C.M. of July 24, 2014, adopted by the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces on November 27, 2014) as well as to the definition of minimum requirements for access to public funding for centers for male perpetrators of violence.
  • WP3 – Second national survey on centers for male perpetrators of violence.
  • WP4 – Analysis of territorial empowerment measures for women who undertake pathways to exit from violence.

Area 2 – EVALUATION ACTIVITIES OF POLICIES ON THE PREVENTION AND COMBATING OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

The purpose of this area is to evaluate the capacity of the previous National Strategic Plan on male violence against women 2017-2020 and the new National Strategic Plan on male violence against women 2021-2023 to achieve the planned strategic interventions.

This area consists of the following working packages (WP):

  • WP5 – The final evaluation of the National Strategic Plan against violence against women 2017-2020.
  • WP6 – The ongoing evaluation of the New National Plan against violence against women.
