Electronic Health Records and Telemedicine

On June 29, researcher Fabrizio Pecoraro from the IRPPS Health and Society group participated in the 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐠𝐧𝐨 𝐝𝐢 𝐓𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐚 𝐏𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐚 (Telemedicine Conference in Pescara). The conference provided an opportunity to discuss the opportunities opened by the decree of September 28, 2023 for the innovation of the National Health Service, driven by the transition toward new technological infrastructures dedicated to both Telemedicine—the set of healthcare services that can be performed remotely through innovative technologies—and the Electronic Health Record, which enables the digital collection of a patient’s clinical history.

Pecoraro’s contribution focused specifically on the Electronic Health Record, emphasizing the need to develop a tool containing structured information that is interoperable with other health information systems. Furthermore, the Record must serve not only as a care support tool—facilitating patient management and diagnostic and treatment operations across different professionals and healthcare facilities—but also as a source of data for decision-makers and the research community for epidemiological and governance studies.

You can listen to the researcher’s intervention here.

The latest IRPPS Working Paper, to which the Health and Society group contributed, is instead dedicated to the user experience of a Telemedicine service piloted at the San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital in Rome. You can read it here.

Scuola Democratica Conference – IRPPS’s contribution

The International Conference of the journal Scuola Democratica has concluded. Hosted in Cagliari from June 3 to 6, the third edition of the Conference brought together presentations and debates on the link between education and social justice.

CNR – IRPPS was present with a large group of participants, sharing many of the educational themes that are at the heart of the Institute’s research.

Among the convenors, Stefano Boffo moderated the Panel Universities’ Public Engagement and Social Justice, where relevant projects and activities in which universities and research institutions have interpreted the so-called Third Mission were discussed; Paolo Landri moderated the semi-plenary session and the Panel Educational Futures of Small and Rural Schools.

In the session Social Inclusion Through Sport and Physical Education, moderated by Luciana Taddei, Luciana Taddei, Paolo Landri, Anna Milione, and Ilaria Primerano presented the Baskin case study as an example of participatory social innovation. Meanwhile, in the context of presentations on challenges and opportunities presented by digital educational environments, Claudia Pennacchiotti, Valentina Tudisca, and Adriana Valente reflected on the inclusion opportunities provided by open educational resources through the experience of the progetto OLA.

Theoretical and epistemological aspects were explored in the presentations by Francesca Cubeddu, who examined the importance of the social justice educational approach, and by Paolo Landri on Exploring the Social (in)justice of Educational Assemblages. The case studies presented by Antonietta Riccardo focused on the construction of welfare strategies against exclusion.

A further line of presentations concerned the link between education, representations, and gender, with contributions from Tatiana Motterle and Angela Toffanin on the initial results of an ongoing study on European and national policies to combat cyber gender-based violence, and with the experiences presented by Sara Marini related to the Scosse association and the national Educare alle differenze network, focusing on research and action to counteract gender stereotypes in education.

The presentation by Giulia Ciancimino investigated perceptions and preferences regarding meritocracy in Italy and the importance attributed to education as an element of merit, examining trends over recent decades.

Finally, the case study Decide Your Print: A Workshop For Systemic Declination Of Sustainability Literacy, presented by Monia Torre, provided an opportunity to reflect on possible educational approaches to sustainability.

The HIN project becomes a trademark

To facilitate collaborations in the university environment and clinical practice, HIN (Health Issue Network) — a project born within the Health and Society group of IRPPS — has recently been registered as a trademark.

HIN is a method that facilitates clinical reasoning and improves the training of students and professionals in the healthcare sector (in both human and veterinary medicine).

Fabrizio Pecoraro (CNR-IRPPS) retraces the highlights of the project in an audio-abstract.

Youth beyond stereotypes

The monographic issue of the journal Welfare & Ergonomia, dedicated to “Youth beyond stereotypes” (Franco Angeli) and edited by Carlo Buzzi, aims to examine the major evolutionary changes in the youth world that have occurred in our society in recent times.

It does so not through a structural approach—namely demographic, economic, or social. In these three areas, the literature is already extensive; instead, it focuses on cultural aspects, taking into account the significant internal variability among young people. This variability is often invisible to adults and the media, which, by failing to consider it, creates superficial and stereotyped images of the youth world.

There are 12 selected and published articles, plus one practical experience, divided into 3 sections. We are making the long abstracts of the articles available here in PDF format.

Part One. Transformations, redefinitions, identities

It focuses on the processes of identity acquisition—both individual and social youth identity—within a social context that is sometimes challenging.

Part Two. Peripheries, resilience, life choices

It presents articles that examine youth attitudes and behaviors capable of dealing with difficult contexts or situations that lead to specific life choices.

Part Three. Science, trust, uncertainties

It focuses on youth sentiments toward science, a factor that has a strong impact on many aspects of life, such as the idea of technological progress, the relationship with institutions, and the concept of health.

Call for papers: Bici & Società Research Network

Following the first seminar in Padua, which took place from November 30 to December 1, 2023, the Bici & Società research network continues its work in the city of Salerno, inviting participants to focus on the multiplicity of cycling practices.

The aim is to broaden the theoretical, methodological, and disciplinary perspective in order to develop a knowledge base that helps understand the conditions that favor cycling mobility and the characteristics of its variability. In other words, what may facilitate or hinder the multiplicity of its uses as a means of transport in urban and extra-urban environments and for leisure (sport and tourism).

Those interested in the call may structure their contribution proposal (an abstract of max 250 words) based on the following questions: what are the characteristics of urban, tourist, and sports cycling mobility, how are they taking shape, who are the actors and what policies support them? With what results? What are the connections between cycling, sport, and tourism? What hybridizations? How is technological innovation in cycling developing? How are bicycle materials configured? How are the bicycle industry and marketing structured? How is cycling mobility conveyed by the media?

The contribution proposal must be sent by June 30, 2024 to the email: p.landri@irpps.cnr.it

Further information is available in the call.

Survey on the Energy Sector

The European project gEneSys, coordinated by IRPPS-CNR, is promoting a survey aimed at those working in the energy sector (as research, technical, academic, expert, and professional staff).

The questionnaire investigates organizational culture, collaboration dynamics, and the roots and solutions to gender imbalances in the energy transition.

Completion takes approximately 10 minutes and is available online: LINK TO THE SURVEY

The energy sector is currently undergoing a profound transformation in which research and innovation (R&I) play a fundamental role. Renewable energy and environmental sustainability require increasing investment in knowledge and technologies. The success of the current energy transition largely depends on the skills and motivation of those who produce new knowledge and technologies.

The questionnaire was developed based on a study recently commissioned by CINEA, European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency with the aim of understanding how to support greater gender inclusivity in professional and employment sectors related to the energy transition.

The data collected will be used for drafting project reports and scientific publications, publicly accessible on the gEneSys project website.

Furthermore, the analysis of the results will contribute to the drafting of a policy brief in support of scientific and energy policies that promote sector inclusivity and help reduce current imbalances in participation.

The questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, and participants are free to stop at any time.
